What's the difference between Empathy and Gossip ?

The difference is in the internal design of the application.

   1. Empathy only supports telepathy - no more complex code to support multiple protocols, Telepathy does that for us.
   2. Empathy uses MC for account management, which allows other applications to list existing accounts,
check whether they are connected and get information through the Telepathy API.
   3. Empathy is split into two libraries (libempathy and libempathy-gtk); libempathy provides non-GUI 
utility functions, and libempathy-gtk allows other GTK and GNOME applications to embed Empathy's widgets.
   4. Empathy refactored much code to avoid code duplication and to provide a better and more powerfull API. 

All this is only possible using Telepathy and MC and would need substantial refactoring of gossip;
this was rejected by Gossip's main developers, so I forked the UI. 

и линк на роадмап. С учетом того, что оно практически одинаковое (Empathy даже местами хуже русифицирован, хотя сильно не вглядывался) и особых изменений пока не планируется - нужно ли описывать Empathy? --rain 18:51, 22 мая 2009 (UTC)

У Empathy есть плюс - нормально работающий Jingle. Если он не нужен - можно не описывать. H31 17:37, 23 мая 2009 (UTC)

Ага, ну, пожалуй можно будет сделать описание как-нибудь - возможно для git-версии либо глянуть, как там подвижки с переводом идут. --rain 18:51, 23 мая 2009 (UTC)

Т.к. у Psi уже появился вменяемый Jingle, то необходимость описывать Empathy ещё меньше.

Psi все же чаще используется вместе с KDE'шным софтом, это насчет Jabbin можно будет подумать, описывать или нет, а Empathy/что-то еще надо хотя б для симметрии :). --rain 18:41, 24 мая 2009 (UTC)
